DEXTER Producer Confirms Eighth Season is the Last and Talks Season Seven Story
Posted on 12th July 2012, By Mel & Filed Under Dexter, News with No Comments

A new trailer for the seventh season of Dexter showed up just last week, and while there hasn’t been any new footage shown from the new season, it does hint at some big things happening between Dexter (Michael C. Hall) and his sister Deb (Jennifer Carpenter), especially following the cliffhanger ending last season. Hopefully we’ll get more of an idea of what this season will entail at Comic-Con next month, bot for now, we have some hints from executive producer Sara Colleton who not only details some of the plot points of the forthcoming seventh season, but also confirms that the eighth season will be the last for Dexter. More details after the jump.

dexter-season-7-posterFirst of all, Colleton, speaking to TV Guide, has no doubt that the eighth season will be the last for Dexter. This was talked about when Showtime renewed the series for two more seasons last year, but Colleton officially confirms it saying:

“This was definite. We wanted to end it this year, but the network convinced us that it would be best to do it in two years. In some ways, this is a two-season series-ender. We have worked that out and know where it’s going to end. Next year will definitely be the last year of Dexter. Absolutely.”

Hopefully that means they don’t have to draw out the series in a way that feels forced for two seasons rather than just ending this season. But after hearing some of the plots from the seventh season, it sounds like there should be some great surprises in store. For those who want to go into the seventh season blind and want to avoid potential spoilers, steer clear from here on out.

Colleton first clears up some facts about the recently cast Yvonne Strahovski’s character. Previously it was said that she’s brought in to help close some old cases. However, the producer says, “She plays this woman named Hannah, who took off from this small rinky-dink Florida town and ran off with this older guy and they went on this wild killing spree. So when they got caught, she turned state’s evidence on the boyfriend, he went to jail for life and she started a new life. Years later, she’s in her 30s and she will intersect with Dexter. I would say Hannah is a still water that runs very deep and is quite unlike any woman Dexter has ever known.” That sounds a little more interesting.

dexter-season-7Another plot point will have LaGuerta (Lauren Vélez) maybe getting closer to Dexter’s dark secret. At some point in the season, LaGuerta will find one of Dexter’s blood slides that he drops at a crime scene. Colleton elaborates:

“The only other time that she had seen this blood slide was in the copy case of the Bay Harbor Butcher. Her dear friend Sergeant Doakes, everyone thought he was the Bay Harbor Butcher, and thought that when he died, the Bay Harbor Butcher died with him. Now, she begins to suspect, ‘Is the Bay Harbor Butcher still alive and how can I set about proving the innocence of my friend Sergeant Doakes?’ That is something that’s a silent thing at the start, but it’s, again, going to be eventually working its way back to Dexter. It’s going to be very interesting to see if she can exonerate him.”

dexter-image-michael-c-hallBut the big question is, what will be happening between Dexter and Deb after her discovery at the end of the season last year? Colleton doesn’t reveal too much, but does say their relationship following this revelation will be somewhat rocky:

“Yeah. Obviously this whole season we’re going to have great fun playing with every permutation that can be played between Debra and Dexter in their relationship now that this information has come out. She was on her way to the church at the end of the last season because she had come to realize that she not only loved her foster brother Dexter but she is in love with him. So now what does she do? Does she turn him into the police? Is she repulsed by him? Can she continue to love him? Does she feel an odd relief that finally she understands some fundamental part of him that always felt elusive? Dexter was always elusive and Debra always thought it was because of her, and now she knows it wasn’t about her, it was about him really protecting her.

But she is the head of the homicide division and so it has to really affect her sense of justice and the whole system. It’s a really challenging year for her to juggle. And Dexter, of course, his world is equally rocked. He’s never had to deal with these kinds of emotions — regret, guilt, a sense of having let Deb down and also, obviously, the gnawing suspicion that at any time, she could have him arrested.”

Yeah, this season sounds like it’s setting up for the final go round, and I’m glad they’re not going to keep the show going just because the network wants it. It’s a little troubling that what should have been one season is becoming two, but I’m hoping the writers can maintain the quality of the show for a stellar ending for fans. ‘Dexter’ season 7: Jennifer Carpenter shares new photo from set
Posted on 12th July 2012, By Mel & Filed Under Dexter, News with No Comments

Carpenter’s showing off a sense of humor.

While the image to the left does not really provide us with much in the way of spoilers for the upcoming seventh season of “Dexter,” isn’t it nice to have a little something compared to nothing at all?

Late Friday evening, Jennifer Carpenter (otherwise known as Debra Morgan) posted the rather funny picture to the left on her Twitter account along with the following caption:

“Two dummies waiting to shoot…”

It’s hard to tell whether or not Carpenter in this photo is shooting outdoors, but the umbrella clearly does suggest that it is meant to look like an outdoor scene. As for the dummy, maybe Dexter is getting set to dump off a body off of his boat. Then again, doesn’t the dummy look just a little bit like Michael C. Hall?

At the end of the day, it’s probably too difficult to really interpret much about what is actually being shot based on just looking at a playful photo — but it is nice to see that Carpenter has a pretty good sense of humor about herself and the shooting process, which is something that can be stressful due to the long hours.

Deb is going to have a major role in the season almost from the get-go, as she is going to have to reconcile her feelings for Dexter while trying to digest the fact that she just watched him plunge a dagger straight through Travis Marshall’s heart. It’s a bit of serendipity that has changed the entire fabric of the show, and now we wonder whether Dexter will be able to convince her he is never going to kill again, or if she is just going to let him go about his business since the people he kills are those who in some eyes deserve to die.

What do you think about Carpenter’s photo? Be sure to check out some more “Dexter” coverage by heading over to this link.

‘Dexter’: Deb Begs Her Brother to ‘Get Away from the Body’ — TRAILER
Posted on 12th July 2012, By Mel & Filed Under Dexter, News, Video Archive with No Comments

For just under six full seasons, Michael C. Hall’s anything-but-a-hero on the Showtime hit Dexter has managed to keep his moderately jarring secret (which lands somewhere between “I’m in an underground barbershop quartet” and “I’m an extraterrestrial traveler here to scout for an intergalactic softball team”) hidden from his friends, coworkers, and most importantly, his sister Deborah (Jennifer Carpenter). But then there was that eventful season finale which threw things into chaos.

Season 7 picks up in September, launching Dexter into a whole new year of problems, notably dealing with his sister’s emotional turmoil over the discovery of his shocking “dark passenger.” Considering this, and her own conflicting, creepy feelings about her adopted brother, Deb isn’t quite in for an easy season either. And as dark as past years of Dexter have been, this new trailer is just plain haunting. Devastating, even. Check it out, and try to subdue the chill that’ll run through your spine when Deb utters that final quivering, “Jesus, Dexter…”

‘Dexter’ season 7: What loose ends need to be tied up?
Posted on 12th July 2012, By Mel & Filed Under Dexter, News with No Comments

“Dexter” is currently in the middle of shooting its seventh season, and the general consensus among many in the TV industry is that this serial killer is entering his home stretch. We know for sure that there is one more season after this … and then what? All good shows need to have an expiration date, and for “Dexter” fall 2013 may very well be the best time that Michael C. Hall and company say goodbye. Executive producer Scott Buck and Showtime head David Nevins have not firmly committed to this just yet, but this would run the length of Hall’s new contract.

One thing we will give the show’s producers credit for over the years is making sure that most of their loose ends are tied up in some form or another. Even some of the stragglers have been revisited already, with a noteworthy one being Jonah Mitchell during that bizarre “Nebraska” episode last season. However, there still are a few more holes that need to be addressed in the coming two seasons, and there’s only so much time left to get to them.

1. Lumen – Really, this is the granddaddy of them all. Have we really seen the last of her? The way her story wrapped up — with her suddenly leaving Dexter after they teamed up to kill Jordan Chase and his accomplices was frustrating, unsatisfying, and really quite frankly ridiculous. If Lumen was indeed Dexter’s soul mate (which some people seem to believe), then why hasn’t she turned back up?

At some point, this story does need greater closure — after all, she is the only person who both knows Dexter’s dark passenger and completely understands it.

2. Astor and Cody – It was almost a sitcom-esque move to kill off Rita and then ship away her kids to their grandparents, but they were nonexistent throughout season 6. We know that Astor blames Dexter for what happened, but Cody loved him. With Dexter seeming like such a caring parent, it would be strange to have these two fall off the map now forever without any resolution.

3. Louis – We know already that this is a loose end that will continue. The resident computer whiz is still at Miami Metro for season 7, and he may continue to pose a quiet threat to Dexter.

Although Louis has not said verbatim that he knows about who Dexter really is, you can read between the lines. (Or, in this case, a hand that is delivered to your house.) Can Louis really make it out of this show alive?

4. The Prados – Miguel died at the end of the show’s excellent third season, but his wife (who was good friends with Rita) is still out there — as is Miguel’s brother Ramon. It wouldn’t necessarily be realistic for them to be permanent fixtures in Dexter’s life, but it would be a nice moment to see the long-suffering family back in some shape or form before dropping the curtain.

5. Batistia’s personal life -There are some characters on this show with complicated love lives (Deb, Quinn, and even Dexter to name a few), but none are stranger than Batista’s. His marriage to Maria ended offscreen, and since that time he has simply bounced around and drank … constantly. We have already met his daughter and his baby sister, and are more invested in his character than many of his other cops — with all of this in mind, isn’t it fair that we want to see him happy?
